What Is Essiac Tea Good For?

essiac tea for cancer

Have you ever heard of a herbal tea that has been said to fight diseases by building your immune system? If the answer is no, then in this article I will explain what is Essiac tea good for. There are a lot of amazing Essiac tea benefits from detoxing, immune support to treating cancer.

The first time I’ve heard about Essiac tea, after watching the documentary series “The Truth About Cancer” hosted by Ty and Charlene Bollinger. I was very curious about this “mysterious tea” that no one really talks about, so I started doing my research.

I found out a lot of useful information, that made me sad, if I only knew this 5 month ago, maybe my father-in-law would be still with us.

The History Of Essiac Tea

Essiac tea is an ancient recipe used by Native Americans who populated Canada and the northern United States.

In 1922 the tea formula was given to the Canadian nurse Rene Caisse( Essiac is Caisse spelled backward) by a patient who had breast cancer and has been treated with Essiac tonic.

In 1924 Ms. Caisse decided to test the tea on her aunt who had stomach cancer and was given 6 months to live. After testing this natural cancer treatment her aunt lived for another 21 years, cancer free.

Nurse Cassie improved and perfected the original medicine formula that was given to her by a patient. She tested several herbal combinations on laboratory mice and human cancer patients.

Rene continued to use Essiac tea with cancer patients and opened the cancer clinic in Ontario in 1934, where she gave essiac tonic to her patients completely free of charge.

Rene Caisse dedicated over fifty years of her life to treating cancerous patients with Essiac.

Essiac tea is a blend of 4 different herbs:

  • Sheep Sorel sometimes called sourgrass is antioxidant, diuretic, diaphoretic, anti-tumor astringent. Sheep sorrel and its roots break apart tumors and prevent metastasis. It’s the most important herb in the Essiac formula. Which is 35 % of Essiac tea, at least 10% of it should include roots.
  • Burdock Root contains multiple antioxidants that protect cells in the body. It removes toxins from the bloodstream. Burdock root significantly interfered with cancer cell growth. 50% of Essiac formula.
  • Slippery Elm Bark it’s 10% of Essiac formula. It is rich in mucilage, a spongy, slippery fiber that has soothing and nutritive properties.
  • Turkey Rhubarb Root is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial astringent. Contains 5% of Essiac formula. Garden Rhubarb shouldn’t be substituted for Turkey Rhubarb.

My Experience Trying Essiac Tea

what is essiac tea good for

Learning more and more about Essiac tea, reading successful stories, testimonials from people who treated themselves from different diseases made me excited so I decided to try it too.

I had a very strange pain in my throat for a month, it wasn’t a cold/a flu sore throat. It was only painful on the left side when I swallow, and if I eat something hard it didn’t feel like its going down smooth.

I was very afraid that it might be something very serious but I was scared going to the doctor, instead, I decided to take Essiac tea. I made a tea according to the directions on the package and tried taking maintenance dosage.

To be honest, the taste isn’t the best, my husband liked it (but he is a weird dude;). However, after taking tea for a few weeks now I got used to the taste and it doesn’t really bother me anymore. But the more important, I notice the difference on my throat. A miracle didn’t happen yet, but the pain is 60% gone.

  1. Hi Alyona  – Firstly, I have to admit two things, 1. I had never hear of this tea before and 2. I hate tea.  I have tried many types in many different ways and just cannot come at the taste.  My wife, on the other hand, loves it and swears by its healing abilities. We are ourselves on a path to chemical free living and herbal teas are a big part of that for my wife.  I am not sure if she has heard of this one either but I will defiintiely be getting some for her as a little surprise gift to try out.

Is there a particular one that I should get her to start with?

    1. Hi Paul! I hope your wife will like it! Like I said it doesn’t taste great, but it has so many benefits that it doesn’t really matter;))
I buy mine from Amazon, certified organic by Starwest Botanicals.

      Best Regards,
      Stay healthy and happy

  2. This is my first time heard about this Essiac tea. I read many positive responses in Youtube  you posted in the website. It is amazing that it originally tested by the native north Americans, because most of herbal teas benefits were discovered in Asia. I can’t wait to tell my friends and families. Thanks for the post.

  3. Thanks for this post Alyona, I love tea and I particularly love herb tea. I have never heard of Essiac tea, I like that it is made up of 3 antioxidants herbs and 1anti inflamation herb. It also has health benefits such as the ability to boost body immunity, heal cancer, diabetes and even aids! I should give this tea a try.

  4. Hello, Alyona.  Thanks for this interesting read.  I like to learn new things and I have to say that I, as well, Have not heard of this tea but I am wondering why, if it works so well at treating cancers, why hasn’t it’s use been more widespread.

Oviously Nurse Caisse was getting some good results but I suppose another question would be… Does it only work on certain cancers?

You mentioned that it works to boost the immune system.  I had heart bypass surgery 2 1/2 years ago and am on an 85-milligram aspirin a day as well as a cholesterol-lowering drug.  Would there be an issue If I drank this tea and is there a recommended intake per day?

    Thanks again

    1. Hi Wayne! Thank you so much for your comment! The Essiac tea works for any cancers and other diseases. With your heart surgery, I would definitely recommend consulting your physician.

      Best Regards,

  5. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful product, I never knew the essiac tea has the benefits for treating and prevention and also serves as the immune system support, people who are actually battling with illness could also make use of this, but my major concern here is, if this tea cures someone who already has cancer?

    1. Hi Seun! Thanks for your comment. Doing my research about this tea, I read and watched a lot of positive testimonies.
Personally, I don’t know anyone, thank God all my family and friends are healthy. But I do believe in the great benefits of essiac tea.

  6. I am so glad I came across this article today. I have stage 2 skin cancer and right now I am treating it using natural remedies. Essiac tea is a new product and remedy that I most certainly will try. I was raised in Northern Minnesota and spent a lot of time in Ontario as a kid ( we have Native American family members who live in Ontario and Manitoba).

Growing up, there were many instances when the lessons to be learned from practices that have been around for centuries and used by the Natives were added to our own family and our eating, living, and mindset. I know the power of the natural flora and the power of living with nature as opposed to trying to dominate it.

Most definitely I will be trying this tea. It has been tested by many over the decades and although it is not the only step I will use (I will continue to incorporate my other natural solutions) I look forward to seeing how it affects my medical condition. Thanks for this post, you have started my day out right!

    1. Hi Dave! I’m really sorry to hear about your diagnosis. But it is awesome that you know about the great benefits of essiac tea, I hope it will help you! Maybe sometime in the future, you will share your success story with us!
      Stay healthy and Happy
      Best Regards,

  7. Wow, I’ve never heard of this kind of tea before, but it seems to really help the body’s immune system a lot.

I would be curious if they did an experiment with this tea how many people would be cured of colds, sores, and cancer.

Can you buy the ingredients for this tea at your local grocery store, or do you have to get it online? Also, can you maybe add in raw honey to make it taste better?

    1. Hi Michael! Yes, nurse Cassie did a lot of experiment with this tea on her cancerous patients, and there were very successful. Unfortunately, you can’t buy ingredients at a local grocery store you may order it online but make sure it’s the highest quality ingredients. And I’m sure you can add raw honey for better taste.
      Stay healthy and happy,

  8. Great review, Although I have never heard of essiac tea before but in a situation where one is down with cancer whether you like herbal tea or not you will jump to taking it so as to be free of such aliment. I love the fact that you said it improves the immune system. I want know if it’s widely available like worldwide and what are the secret to finding the highest quality herbs to make your own tea

    1. Hi Favour! You will find the highest quality of these herbs, growing them in your garden. There is a certain way of growing and harvesting sheep sorrel herb. I buy my tea on Amazon, and I just only hope that is high-quality herbs. There is a company that calls “Discounted essiac”, they claim to be the highest quality and I read a lot of good reviews. I haven’t tried that tea yet. It’s a pricier than on Amazon though.

  9. I’m not a tea person. I’m a coffee person. But my family is wild about tea. Any new types of tea would probably be appreciated if I decided to get it for them. While none of them have cancer, a big immune system boost can’t hurt. That being said, that blood sugar thing is concerning. Considering risk factors for certain diseases, it might not be a good idea to get this one.

    1. That is great that your family is healthy! But this tea is amazing as a preventative from many diseases. But if you have any consults about your health, I would definitely recommend consulting your doctor.

  10. Thank you for sharing! I always appreciated learning about something that will benefit my health, especially if it’ not medication. Pinned for later.

  11. This is wonderful! I have honestly never heard of Essiac Tea before. Looking at all of the benefits you’ve outlined, I definitely will be getting some! Thank you!

  12. Thanks for this info! I drink tea daily but have never heard of Essiac before. After seeing all the great benefits I will definitely check it out!

  13. This is the first I am hearing of this tea. It’s so crazy that home remedies like this aren’t pushed more to the collective public.
