My love for essential oils and essential oil diffusers started when the friend of mine got it for me as a birthday present. But unfortunately, after a year my diffuser quit working. I could not imagine my life without it, so I started searching for a new one. At that time I didn’t know anything about diffusers.
And I was overwhelmed, there are so many types of diffusers on a market, that range from very inexpensive to quite expensive, from good quality to not so much.
If you are looking to purchase an essential oil diffuser, you have a big decision to make. There are many essential oil diffusers to choose from. But what is the best essential oil diffuser I would like to share with you in this article.
What You Need To Know
There are a lot of studies showed that diffusing essential oils can produce the following benefits, depending on the type of oil:
- Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects
- Cognitive function, mood, and memory
- Affects the central nervous system
- Improves sleep quality
- Respiratory health
- Digestive health
- Relax and de-stress
- Mood elevating
- Purify and cleanse the air
- Helps with eczema and psoriasis
One of the primary benefits of essential oils is that, when used properly, they offer many benefits and few, if any side effects.
There are 4 main types of essential oil diffusers on the market today:
Nebulizing Essential Oil Diffusers are usually the most powerful and effective types of diffusers. They don’t need heat or water and contain no plastic. It’s a germ/odor destroyer! The good thing is about this type of diffuser that you will get a strong concentration of oil.
This type of diffuser can be used in a much bigger space because of the concentration of oils. Even if you will run it for 10 minutes it will fill your room with fragrant, and it hangs in the air for hours. This is the perfect device during cold/flu season.
However, they are a little bit noisier and costlier than Ultrasonic diffusers.
Evaporative Diffusers use a fan to generate wind to cause the oil to evaporate into the air. Most of these diffusers have a pad where you can place your essential oil. Other forms of evaporative diffuser could be necklaces and lava bead chakra bracelets.
Heat Diffuser heats the essential oils until they evaporate into the air. The main disadvantage is that the chemical compound changes when it gets in contact with heat. I would personally avoid them, just because it takes away the therapeutic benefits of oil. They come in man types, including electric heat diffusers, candle heat diffusers, and lamp ring.
In general nebulizer and ultrasonic are much better than the evaporative and heat diffusers. They are very similar, however, this device uses water, so the concentration of the oil itself is not potent or strong, but you still get the beneficial effects of the oil. The bonus of ultrasonic diffuser is that it could also be used as a humidifier. And it’s also not as expensive as a nebulizer.
Humidifying essential oil diffusers have become very popular, so there are many models to choose from. But make sure you choose BPA free one.
Best Nebulizing Essential Oil Diffuser
This very elegant and stylish looking diffuser with the glass reservoir is the best purchase I’ve made in the last 6 month. There is no plastic! Your oil touches just the glass. Be mindful, its glass and it can break. So, if you have little children in the house I would suggest putting a diffuser in a safe place.
Some nebulizing diffusers are kinda nosy, but not this one. What makes this diffuser different from other nebulizers, that you don’t have to attach the bottle of oil to it. I use about 8 to 10 drops of oil for 10 minutes and it lasts for hours with low energy consumption.
Because it’s not diluted with water, the scent of oils goes up, which covers a bigger area, it would be better if you will put a diffuser on the kitchen counter downstairs for example.
- Comes with a built-in “touch sensor” light switch that allows you to turn the LED light on or off with the simple brush of your finger.
- Uses no heat or water maintaining therapeutic properties of essential oils. Has “volume” switch to control how much oil to diffuse.
- Low energy consumption, the unit has a Usage Cycles of 2 minutes On, and 1 minute Off. Auto Shut-off after 120 minutes.
- The size of this diffuser is approximately 7.5 X 5 inches
This diffuser is to be used with only PURE essential oils.
Best Ultrasonic/Humidifying Diffuser
This is another of my favorite diffuser that is easy to use. It’s ECO-friendly and hygienic, beautiful design, and BPA FREE. Operation of this diffuser is very simple. There are 2 separate buttons on the front of it – one is for turning diffuser on/off including a setting for 1H, 2H, 3H timer, and the other button is for turning on/of the light.
- Ceramic top cover, water tank with the max fill line, and wood base
- The water tank is made of high resistance PVC plastic so you can use the most aggressive oils, like citrus and eucalyptus.
- 2 different mist modes, continuous + intermittent, ambient + meditation lights
- Timer 1H, 2H, 3H, auto-stop function
- A silent fan
- The 110ml water tank allows you to enjoy the diffuse in a room as large as 250 sq ft room WITHOUT OPEN FLAME. Size of TEO: 7.2 X 5 inches
It’s a portable and very light little diffuser. Great for little office or car. It could be used with or without batter using the USB port. I wish there were multiple settings for the light instead of color changing. The quality of the plastic not that great I personally wouldn’t recommend these type of diffusers, they just don’t work as good as others.
I would rather prefer a necklace or bracelet evaporative diffuser.
Buying an essential oil diffuser is one of the best investments you can make in your health and well-being. They are amazing for the home, office, car and it can make a significant difference in how you feel throughout the day.
You want to invest in the diffuser that is going to serve the purpose. Bigger the tank on the essential oil diffuser, the faster the oils are going to break down, so you will get less scent.
